Formed in 2009, Luca Brasi’s melodic, hard-hitting and precise punk rock did not take long to translate to the mainland. The band’s 2011 debut album ‘Extended Family’, was produced in their hometown, drawing inspiration from the geeky, warm punk sound pioneered by Lifetime and Jawbreaker and melded expertly with fiery, riff-driven punk rock of acts like A Wilhelm Scream and Polar Bear Club. The sound resonated strongly; scoring the band a spot in Triple J’s Short Fast Loud midyear report and legions of fans.
The band’s second album ‘By A Thread’ was released in March 2014. This album pushed the signature Luca Brasi sound into more dynamic territory. The record was mixed by US veteran Matt Bayles, whose production and mixing work can be heard on albums by Pearl Jam, Murder City Devils and, Isis and many more.
Luca Brasi unleashed its third album in April this year, a labour of love that was put together over a couple of years amid a frenetic tour schedule. ‘If This Is All We’re Going To Be’ marries melody, trademark meandering guitar lines, big drum sounds and self-examining lyrical content with the foundational punk and rock ideals that have inspired the band. The result is a dynamic package of cohesion, power and emotion. If This Is All We’re Going To Be received a triple j Feature Album nod, made an impressive debut on the ARIA Charts, and blasted to the top of the AIR Charts.
